What is the Awake Health Check?
The Awake Health Check is a structured self-assessment you complete online in the Awake member portal. Its questions are grouped into sections, each looking at a different part of how your setting works.
Some questions ask for a simple yes or no, others for a rating, a number or a short description, and some let you upload a document. Questions can adapt to your earlier answers, so you only see what’s relevant to your setting.
It’s designed to help you plan improvements. It isn’t an inspection, an Ofsted judgement or a regulatory decision, and your results are based on your own answers.
How it works
Answer the questions
Work through each section at your own pace in the member portal. Your answers save automatically, so you can stop and come back, and colleagues in your setting can help.
See your results
When your setting's owner or a manager submits, you see a score for each section, your strengths, areas to improve and priority areas — with recommendations based on your answers.
Get your personalised action plan
Your results become an action plan. Assign each action, set target dates and record notes and evidence as you make progress.
Keep improving
Your results are saved each time, so you can take the Health Check again later and compare how your setting has changed.
Support and the Awake Quality Mark
- Recommendations can point you to Awake resources and training, or suggest asking Awake for consultancy support, depending on what your membership includes.
- The Awake team can review your submitted Health Check and add feedback for you to read with your results.
- Your Health Check and action plan can help you prepare for the Awake Quality Mark. The Quality Mark has its own criteria and review — completing a Health Check doesn’t award it automatically.
